Astrology is a fascinating subject -- one that I find equally intriguing as the Tarot.
When you think of astrology, perhaps the first thing that comes to mind are the signs of the zodiac -- particularly the sign that corresponds to your birth date. So what does it mean if you are a Leo, for example? Your birth sign is the sign the sun was in at the time you were born, and astrologers study how this influences your nature and the type of person you are. So if you are a Leo, the sun had an association with the constellation of stars for Leo at the time you were born.
The sun, the moon, and the planets all appear to be traveling through a particular line in the sky. This is called the zodiac. Astrologers divide this zodiac into twelve parts, and this is where you have the 12 familiar signs: Aries, the Ram; Taurus, the Bull; Gemini, the Twins; Cancer, the Crab; Leo, the Lion; Virgo, the Virgin; Libra, the Scales; Scorpio, the Scorpion; Sagittarius, the Archer; Capricorn, the Goat; Aquarius, the Water-bearer; and Pisces, the Fishes.
You've probably read your horoscope in the paper or on the internet at some point. Perhaps you felt it "fit" you; or you may very well have said that it was in no way like you at all. The reason for this variance is because not all sun signs are created equally. We couldn't expect two Leo's or Two Pisces to be exactly the same. Every constellation and planet was present in the sky at some particular location at the exact moment you were born, and each of them influence you in a unique way. This is where your natal chart comes in. Your natal chart shows you the placement of all the planets in the sky at the specific place and time of your birth . . . and how your life is influenced by that.
The sky is also divided into 12 subsections, or "houses" into which the planets and stars are located. Each house represents a certain theme in your life. For example, the 1st House is all about you -- your appearance, how you think about yourself, and how you choose to project yourself in relationships with other people. The 4th House is connected with communication of all kinds.
