Dear Velvet,
I've been married
for about 8 months, and my issue is that my husband and I fight too much
about money. He says I waste a lot and spend too much on things I
don't need. I'll admit that it's true, but he is just as guilty as
me! It infuriates me that he wants me to take the blame for it all.
We have times that are tight, but we make sufficient incomes to support
ourselves. So my question is how can I deal with our money issue
in a way that will help us be more agreeable about it all.
Thank you for this
reading opportunity! Your insights are always amazing!
Sincerely,
Cassie
Dear
Cassie,
The 8 of Discs has been drawn for your question, Cassie. This is considered to be the card of the apprentice, and certainly there are things to learn in a marriage, especially during that first year! Money issues are often the biggest hitter in the contribution of problems for a marriage. But the 8 of Discs indicates that you and your husband can make progress in this and find a more productive means to deal with the matter at hand.
The first thing to do is to look at the tasks necessary to improve situations. One thing that comes immediately to mind is the necessity of a budget. Determine what each of you have for individual bills and what bills are combined that you are responsible for together. Then work with this budget to decide how much spending money you can allot for yourselves personally. And because this is a card about building for the future, it's important to include in that budget an amount that you save each month or each pay period. Getting this put into practice will take some effort, but the work will be worth it if you stick with it. There should definitely be much less argument when both of you are willing to adhere to a budget that you work out together. You and your husband have a great opportunity to build a strong financial future with the appropriate planning now. Consider yourselves apprentices who are living and learning -- but going in a positive direction together. And you can both do it as suggested by the positive and productive energy in this Eight!
This card shows seven carved discs, and one still remains unfinished. This indicates that there is still work to be done to solve the issue, but you and your husband do have much going for you. This is a matter that can be resolved with effort and cooperation. You both may find that you have more money skills than you've given yourselves credit for . . . but that is probably due to the fact that you haven't tried a new approach -- until now :-) Try a new approach for the changes you need, Cassie. Talk to your husband about budgeting and show him that you're interested in doing things differently to improve things for now and for the future.
Good luck to you!!
Velvet
