The Diamond Tarot is a striking variation on the traditional Rider Waite Tarot deck which many are already familiar with. Artist Klaus Holitzka recolored the original images and placed them inside a kaleidoscope type of border that converys the tone of feeling for each individual card meaning. This unique presentation creates a three-dimensional effect . . . as if it's a window into another world or a portal which you could step through.
This is definitely a Rider Waite clone, but it's a very attractive and refreshing version. A beginner could use this deck as easily as the traditional Rider Waite deck. The actual images are a lot smaller than in the original version, and this is due, or course, to the colorful borders that have been added.
These cards come in an equally pretty box with the card of the Lovers portrayed on the cover.
This deck won't appeal to everyone, of course -- especially anyone who has never liked the Rider Waite images to begin with. If you didn't like the Rider Waite cards before, you probably won't start liking them in this version either. But those who have a preference for the traditional cards may find that this deck adds something more to tradition, especially in terms of color.
Although it's a beautifully rendered Rider Waite clone, it could be said that the cards are too "busy" or distracting with so much color that surrounds the small main image . . . but as always, it's a matter of personal preference -- as with any deck.
