The Dreampower Tarot

~*~ This deck is suitable for any question you wish to ask of the Tarot. ~*~

Deck by R. J. Stewart; Illustrated by Stuart Littlejohn

The Dreampower Tarot contains fascinating images that speak to me on an intuitive level.  It was a deck I just *had* to have ;-)  When I was unable to locate a copy, I finally found an Ebay auction and won the bid for this deck.   Overall, I am pleased with this unique Tarot deck, although the disappointing aspect of this deck for me is in the fact that the pip cards simply show the same picture on each card with the corresponding number and a keyword.  Obviously, a lot of work went into the creation of the Majors and Court cards, and so even though I was aware of the pip card's presentation before buying this deck, it still left me wishing that the pips could be as captivating as the other cards.  What a magnificent deck it would be had the author chosen to do this.  However, I am still quite fascinated with the cards, and am pleased with my deck.

This is definitely not a traditional Tarot, especially with the Major Arcana which have no markings or titles.  Thus, the book which comes with the deck is essential for anyone learning how to use this set of cards.  I think it was the author's intention to let the reader find the deeper meaning within the cards and fully make use of one's intuition.  The images are certainly a rich source of inspiration and allows one's mind to look beyond surface issues and go deeper into a situation.  You can set your imagination free to explore with this beautiful set of cards.

The Major cards are quite intriguing and are divided into three realms:

1. The Stone Realm:  Reveals personal story, family, and career or true work; surface life; health/body; opportunities; personal story.  (The Teller, The Gate, The Stone, The Table, The Sleeper, The Choir)
2. The Pearl Realm:  Reveals inner life, creativity, the energy that flows through inherited patterns and which also may open them out, untie knots, and bring liberation; Inner heart or hidden center; the Sun at Midnight, the light within the stone/individual; truths and transformations; the transpersonal or spiritual story.  (The Opener, The Tangler, The Seed Pearl, The Stairway, The Raptor, The Maiden)
3. The Whirlpool Realm:  Reveals the Spirit life, source of many outer lives, the reality of Being that resonates through inner and outer life; deepest potential, spirit inherent and alive within all that is.  (The Maker, The Maze, The Whirlpool, The Observatory, The Void, The Knower)
According the other author, the other cards of the Major Arcana bridge the Realms in either direction.
The author states, "These are Realms of relative being, of consciousness, of power.  They are realities revealed by directing your focus, your awareness, and intent . . . "

Although this deck is an untraditional form of Tarot, the following associations can be made with the Major Arcana cards.  Page 174 of the accompanying book also offers some associations with a traditional tarot, as follows:

The Fool:  The Gate
The Magician:  The Choir
The High Priestess:  The Sleeper
The Empress:  The Maiden
The Emperor:  The Raptor

From the author, in the book:
"The Dreampower Tarot is for our journey within.  It is a tarot of the hidden depths within us, the way in which these depths may be explored and the powers and people that we may meet in such explorations.  It is not a psychological tarot in the sense of modern psychology, but draws upon a profound tradition which is discussed throughout the book."

This deck is now out of print, so availability is very limited.  I have provided two possible sources toward the end of this page -- Amazon and Ebay.  If you have no luck there, sometimes individual sellers can be found on the internet by typing in "Dreampower Tarot" as your search . . . however, from my own experience with some of these sellers who claim to have the merchandise you want, it's best to email them first and ask ahead of time if they actually have what you want before you place your order.  Many times, they don't have it, and you either never hear from them again, or they write you to inform you that they are unable to fill your order.

Number of Cards in Deck: 78 cards (22 Major/56 Minor)

Size of Cards:  3-1/8" x 4-1/8"

Included with deck: Accompanying book, 186 pages, which explains how to use the deck and interpret the cards.

Major Arcana:
See above for the card names that can be related to traditional card titles.

Suit Names:
Souls:  represent the Element of Water
Spirits:  represent the Element of Fire
Messengers:  represent the Element of Air
