Legend Arthurian Tarot

~*~ This deck is suitable for any question you wish to ask of the Tarot. ~*~

Deck by Anne-Marie Ferguson

© 1995 Llewellyn Publications

This is a deck that appeals to fans of Arthurian myth and legend.  Those who have some knowledge of this theme will have no problem understanding the correlation between the myths and the meanings of the cards and can gain tremendous insight from use of this deck.  Those who are not familiar with the legends may become more interested in them after using this deck.  Some knowledge of the Arthurian Legend is useful in getting the most out of this deck, and so the accomanying book, "A Keeper of Words," is an excellent tool for learning about these myths and legends.  It's a fascinating book that you can actually sit down and read in storybook or novel fashion to learn about the Arthurian legends.  At the same time, you will also learn and understand the symbolism of the cards and what they mean in both the upright and reversed positions.

It is my understanding that this deck can now be purchased separately, without the book -- however, since the book is such a treasure of important information, I recommend buying it as a Deck & Book set.  It's certainly worth it!

The name of each card is in the top border, and the corresponding theme name is located in the bottom border of each card.  The associated theme for each card can be a person, a place, an animal, or a specific tale from the Arthurian Legend.

This deck is not a clone of the Rider-Waite tradition.  Instead, it is fresh and inviting, without losing the traditional structure that most people will recognize.  It's a charming deck with symbolism that is rich in meaning and can incite new and creative thoughts.  The images are pleasing even though the colors are not bright or especially outstanding . . . but I think the colors used are appropriate for this theme deck.  The decorative, gold-tone inner borders on the cards also add a very nice effect.
