This was my first Tarot deck and was very helpful to me in the learning process.  It's a deck that helps you get to know the Tarot and to prepare yourself to expand to other decks as you gain experience and become ready for a more in-depth study of Tarot.

The Rider (also referred to as "Rider-Waite) Tarot was first published in 1909 and is still one of the most popular decks available today.  It's one of the easiest decks to learn with, as many books and publications use this traditional set of cards for illustration.  The art is simple and basic, and one is likely to "outgrow" this deck through time.  But this can be a "good" thing, as it will denote your readiness to advance and explore further meanings within the cards.

This is the deck which is also "famous" on television commercials for psychic Tarot readings.  Some readers prefer to use this deck in their practice, even with the wide variety of other decks that are available today.  It's a deck that certainly has a special place for me, as I started my Tarot journey with this very one.  I still take it out from time to time to read with it, even with my deck collection that is growing quite large.

I definitely recommend this deck to beginners or to anyone wanting a reading with the most traditional and original form of Tarot.
