Tarot of Oz

Deck by David Sexton

© 2002 David Sexton

This deck is based on the series of Oz books written by L. Frank Baum between 1900 and 1920.  The most well-known is the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the story of Dorothy and her "fool's journey" of self-discovery on the yellow brick road.

As much as I have loved the movie, "The Wizard of Oz" over the years, this was a deck I just *had* to have :-)  I cannot count how many times I've watched the movie.  It has always held something magical and special for me -- an adventure that never grows old for me.  I am not as familiar with the other Oz stories, and this deck includes many of them . . . but I'm still delighted with this whimsical deck.  Any fan of Oz will probably love the Tarot of Oz, too :-)

Each Minor Arcana card shows scenes from a story revolving around one of the famous characters of the Wizard of Oz:
--Tin Man for Cups (remember, he wanted a heart)
--Cowardly Lion for Wands (he wanted courage)
--Scarecrow for Swords (he wanted a brain)
--Dorothy for Stones (Pentacles) -- (She wanted to go home.)

The court cards are taken from the many royal figures that appear in Baum's books.  The instruction book is like a mini-book, containing 180 pages of information that describes the scene or character on each card and how it relates to the card's meaning.  The book does not go into Tarot history and theory that is found in most books.

The Tarot of Oz offers a fun approach to card reading, and is a perfect deck for that light-hearted mood . . . yet the answers and messages within the cards will not just be silly, frivolous answers.  The Tarot, in whatever form, takes your questions and concerns seriously.  Follow the yellow brick road on a Tarot Journey just for you that will help you explore the things you want to know :-)
