The
Unicorn Tarot![]()
~*~This deck is suitable for any question you wish to ask of the Tarot.~*~

Each card in this deck shows at least one unicorn that interacts with the scene of the card to highlight it's meaning. The artist, Liz Hilton, specializes in fairies, unicorns, and mystical beasts. I think this is a fun deck to work with. There seems to be a lot of criticism about this deck in reviews, but it's a deck designed to meet the interests of those who like unicorns. If you don't like unicorns or fantasy art, then this probably wouldn't be a good deck choice for you. However, I like this deck, regardless of how some reviewers indicate that unicorns have nothing to do with Tarot. Tarot is for *you* . . . and if you like unicorns, who is to say that they should not appear in Tarot cards? There are hundreds of different decks available today, all geared towards various interests, and this is one that is geared towards the interest and enjoyment of unicorns. I personally think this a great Tarot deck!
All of the Major Arcana, the suit names, and the court cards follow the traditional card names. Wands, however, are called "Rods" in this deck, but "Rods" has become fairly common for this suit. The art is good, and the deck closely follows the Rider-Waite Tarot, with the exception of the 5 of Pentacles card in the Minor Arcana. I don't see a connection between that card's image and the actual meaning of the card, although by stretching the imagination somewhat, I could see it in terms of a "starving artist" scenario, I suppose -- but this seems to be the only card where such controversy exists.
Because the Unicorn Tarot follows traditional themes, I would not hesitate to recommend it as a first deck, especially to anyone who has a love for unicorns and the myths and legends associated with them.
A companion book, which is sold separately, is also available for this deck. The 165-page book, entitled "In Search of Unicorns," includes both upright and reversed meanings for the cards, and I think the author did a good job with it. It's not something that will go "over your head" if you're a beginner. It's easy to understand, which makes it even more enjoyable to work with.

The image above
is not associated with the Unicorn Tarot . . . but it's such a pretty image,
I couldn't resist including it in this "unicorn" theme page :-)
