This is one of the most beautiful Tarot decks I have ever seen! This was a "must-have" for me, and it's one of my favorite decks to use. The vibrant colors and rich detail in the cards do a wonderful job in representing Native American wisdom and tradition. The deck creates a sense of comfort and peacefulness for both reader and seeker. It's quite popular among my clients who have an appreciation for Native American history and life.
It was hard for me to narrow my choice down to only 6 sample cards to display here. This is one of those rare decks in which I can truly appreciate each and every card in the deck. Not a single card has disappointed me. The beautiful images and colors speak to me in ways that other decks do not, and it's a deck I definitely recommend, especially for those who have an interest in Native American themes.
The Major Arcana figures in this deck have become tribal figures -- such as the Medicine Man for the Magician and the Medicine Woman for the High Priestess, just to name a couple of examples. The four Minor Arcana suits are represented by the associated element for that suit and symbolized by an object from Native American life and tradition:
The Little White Book that comes with this deck is like a mini-manual rather than just the "little" booklet you normally get with a deck of Tarot cards. This instruction booklet contains 108 pages of information on the Vision Quest cards and their interpretation. Included for each card are keywords, an inner message of guidance, and a description of how the card's message might be outwardly manifested.Jars, cups, and bowls represent Water -- the emotional level (Cups suit)
Arrows, Wands, and Flames represent Fire -- the energy level (Wands suit)
Feathers and birds represent Air -- the spiritual and mental level (Swords suit)
Vegetables, fruits, stones, and flowers represent Earth -- the physical level (Pentacles suit)
Each card in this deck has one word printed on it to sum up the essence of the card's message. This is helpful for those who are new to the deck or Tarot and assists in making connections and putting the cards into perspective with the other cards in a reading.
The Vision Quest is such an amazing and beautiful deck. It's certainly rated high with me, and there just aren't enough words of praise to give this outstanding deck the proper credit it's due. I think the authors, Gayan S. Winter and Jo Dose, do an excellent job in summing up the wisdom and value of Tarot and have incorporated that into their beautifully illustrated cards.
