Deck

This is a delightful and charming Tarot deck. It's a deck for children and the young at heart. Whimsical Tarot is definitely a cute deck . . . but for those who don't like "cutesy" -- this deck would probably not be appealing to them. I like this one a lot, however, and part of what appeals to me is the fact that it *is* such a cute deck. Although I don't normally read the Tarot for children, this would indeed be the perfect Tarot deck to use for kids. Even though I don't read the cards *for* children, this deck works nicely for questions in reference *to* children as well. It's also perfectly fine to choose this for yourself, as an adult . . . and let the "kid at heart" within you come out and play :-) The Whimsical Tarot is suitable for use with younger or more sensitve people, because there are no scary cards in the deck and no nudity. I would highly recommend this deck for children's readings or for the child who wants to learn to read the Tarot cards . . . and for anyone who may have reservations about Tarot cards and the images. The Whimsical Tarot gets the message across in a gentle manner without being frightening in any way.
The idea of the artist was to create a deck that is simple enough to use and be easily understood. With childhood stories, something that most of us already have tucked away in our memories, the Tarot portrayed in this way helps us to better understand the messages being presented. Each card in this deck portrays a scene that represents a fairy tale, nursery rhyme, or other childhood story. I think the author has succeeded in creating an easy-to-use and easy-to-understand deck. The Whimiscal Tarot images help one to tap into his or her rich source of knowledge from fairy tales and stories . . . as well as the knowledge of Tarot. And for this very reason, it's a deck that can work very well for intuitive readings. It certainly has much greater depth than appears at first glance!
The structure and card titles are traditional for the tarot. Suit cards have color-coded borders. The page of each suit is not a person, but instead a symbol of some item relating to that suit's theme. Obviously, Dorothy Morrison put a lot of time and careful thought into researching the fairy tales and stories for this deck. Her efforts are outstanding, as can be appreciated from her pretty deck of delightful cards that really work.
The outside of the Tarot box reads as follows: "A delightful tarot deck based on children's fairy tales, stories, fables and myths. Colorful and charming, each card features a full pictorial scene, and is suitable for both children and adults. Let your imagination soar as you travel through this magical deck." Indeed, this deck's art is very pretty, and it's like opening up a story book filled with fun pictures when you use this deck. But the best part of all with this fun deck is that your Tarot message will still be serious -- it isn't going to be something silly just because you've chosen a cute and entertaining deck for your reading. You'll still get the same inspirational guidance in your Tarot reading with this deck. ;-)
From the Little White Book that accompanies the deck, Dorothy Morrison explains how her cards can and do work:
"The Whimiscal Tarot is precisely what its name proclaims: a whimsical look at the tarot. Granted, this may seem like a contradiction in terms, but make no mistake, this system not only works, but it is serious tarot at its best. Here's why . . .Number of Cards in Deck: 78 cards (22 Major/56 Minor)Although the human brain is a database of sorts, it is a much more intricate system than any central processing unit that money can buy. Yes, it stores data, facts, and other information. It will even sort them for you at the bat of eye, but it does one thing that computers cannot. The brain thinks. .........
Childhood stories are built of simple ideas, have simple plots, and teach simple lessons. The brain already knows this stuff, so there's nothing to sort through or think about. That being the case, the messages arrive undisturbed. Once we package them together, we can then engage the thinking process to determine how they affect us, and come up with a solution, if need be. It's as simple as that."
