Madame Endora's Fortune cards are not Tarot, but I really like how they work along the same lines as Tarot does -- just without the same traditional structure. The deck contains 48 cards, and in these cards, you will not find court cards or Major and Minor Arcana cards. The cards are unique from the Tarot, yet I've found them to be equally as insightful and fun to use.
The cards in this deck are beautifully done, so it's a very lovely alternative to Tarot. Because it works similar to Tarot, I offer this deck as a choice for any Tarot reading on my site.
The Fortune cards do not contain suits as Tarot does. Instead, these cards are divided into the following sections:
1. The Royal Court ~ 8 cards that represent the people who have an important influence in your life: King, Queen, Wizard, Seer, Knight, Maiden, Minstrel, Harlequin.
2. The Realm of Fable ~ 10 cards that depict persona from Egyptian, Celtic, and Greek mythology. These represent outside forces that guide and influence, motivate, hinder, or otherwise affect your situation and the path you are traveling: The Golem, The Greenman, Hindrance, Medusa, The Satyr, Seduction, Serendipity, The Siren, The Sphinx, The Spirit.
3. The Bestiary ~ 10 cards that represent various creatures from myth and legend. Offers valuable lessons and truths to be discovered: The Black Cat, The Chimera, The Dragon, Gryphon, Raven, Serpent, Spider, Unicorn, Wolf, Wyvern.
4. The Treasury ~ 12 cards representing valuable mystic treasures to assist you in the attainment of goals to prepare you in fulfilling your true destiny or path: Caduceus, Chalice, Dagger, Gate, Hand of Fate, Hourglass, Key, Love, Mystic Circle, Oracle, Shield, Talisman.
Through this unique set of cards, we are able to enter the realms of legend, fantasy, and fable . . . something that also makes this deck fun to use. Much can be explored through these 48 intriguing cards.
Madame Endora's Fortune Cards are both fascinating and effective in readings. It's a fun deck to use, especially when you want something a little different from the traditional Tarot structures.
I find similarities in some of Madame Endora's Fortune cards when compared to Tarot. So if you are already familiar with Trot, such knowledge can enhance your intuition and interpretation of these cards.
The back of the cards are designed so that if one wanted to, the cards can also be read reversed, just like in Tarot. Through my experience, I have found that the cards work well if you choose to use reversals in a reading, as I do. Although the booklet that comes with the cards does not offer a separate interpretation for a reversed card, it is easy to see the meaning of a reversal.
I really enjoy the art in this deck. It is simple, yet elegant. You won't find a great deal of symbolism . . . but again, this is not true Tarot. It's a deck designed to be different, but still useful and insightful for readings. I very much enjoy working with Madame Endora's Fortune cards.
