The "Animals Divine Tarot" was was written and illustrated by Lisa Hunt -- who is also the artist of the Shapeshifter and Celtic Dragon Tarot decks, both of which I also have and use from my vast deck collection. Beautiful images of animal gods and goddesses, various animals, birds, reptiles, and insects are featured in the "Animals Divine Tarot." I think Lisa Hunt's work only gets better and better! The watercolor imagery showcases a variety of cultures and mythology, including: Native American, African, Indian, Incan, Aztec, Greek, and Roman. If we are open to the divine essence of the animals, they have much to teach us, and we can be more in tune with ourselves and our surrounding environment.
The 78 cards are accompanied by a 198-page companion book, written by Lisa Hunt. They are packaged together in a box that is a soft shade of leafy, autumn yellow. Included is also a black organdy bag that can be used to hold the cards. As shown above in the card samples, the cards are bordered in white with a thin, dark inner border. The top of the cards note the name of the god, goddess, or animal represented. The bottom of the card lists the card number and name. The cards have smooth, matte finish. The back of the cards have a Celtic knot design centered on yellow background. It's not considered to be a "reversible" back as there is a difference when upright or reversed, but these cards can still be used by readers who like to allow for reversals to come up in readings. Reversed cards are not discussed in the companion book, however, a reversed card will often signify a block or delay in a situation. It can even alert us to a block in attitudes that can prevent one from moving forward.
The suit of Cups relates to the element of water and features aquatic animals. The Wands relate to the element of Fire and feature reptiles, lizards, and insects. The suit of Swords corresponds to the Air element and presents various birds and other flying animals. Pentacles correspond to the element of Earth and feature various animals of wildlife.
Two extra cards are included with spread layouts -- the Animal Wheel Spread and the Animal Journey Spread. Examples of these spreads used in a reading are given in the companion book.
The "Animals Divine" Tarot is probably not an ideal choice for beginners who haven't yet learned traditional Tarot symbolism, but it is a lovely deck for experienced, intuitive readers who want a fresh perspective. It's also a nice choice for animal lovers and those who have an interest in mythology.
