From the very talented creators of the Tarot of Prague and the Baroque Bohemian Cat's Tarot comes the delightful Fairy Tale Tarot.  This deck is based on fairy tales from many diverse cultures.  Although not a clone of the Rider Waite Tarot by any means, there are similarities in the structure and even in many of the images.

The cards are so colorful and pretty -- a real pleasure to work with.  Although there are many fairy tales used in the cards for which I am not familair with, the book comes in quite handy for that.  The book itself is nicely done in glossy-style pages and black and white images.  Two to three pages are dedicated to each card, beginning with the story attached to the card.  The story is followed by Keywords and Phrases and then further information on the story and interpretation for that card.  It's a very easy-to-use book . . . one of the more nicely done books that I've seen lately.  It's fun to just read through the fairy tales themselves even if you're not doing a reading at that particular time.  Learn about the magical and enchanting stories that you aren't already familiar with . . . or review those that have been your favorites as a child.

Listed below are the Major Arcana of the deck (all traditionally named) and the corresponding fairy tales associated with them:

The Fool: The Poor Miller's Boy and the Little Cat
The Magician:  The Storyteller at Fault
The High Priestess: Libuse
The Empress:  Cinderella
The Emperor:  The Emperor and teh Nightingale
The Hierophant:The Five Wise Words of the Guru
The Lovers:  Tatterhood
The Chariot: The Snow Queen
Strength:  Beauty and the Beast
The Hermit:  Bearskin
The Wheel of Fortune:  Fortune and the Wood Cutter
Justice:  The Juniper Tree
The Hanged Man:  The Shifty Lad
Death:  Godfather Death
Temperance:  Water and Salt
The Devil:  The Red Shoes
The Tower:  Deirdre of the Sorrows
The Star:  The Fairy of the Dawn
The Moon:  The Nixy
The Sun:  The Sunchild
Judgement:  Snow White
The World:  Many Fur
Although I have personally gotten out of the habit of drawing a daily card for myself, if I were to take up that practice again, I think I would choose this deck.  This Tarot deck need not be limited to just doing readings.  One can also use it for meditation, story-telling, or dream work . . . or other purposes that are helpful for that individual.  The author's purpose is that people enjoy this deck, no matter how they choose to use it in their lives.

The author of this deck, Karen Mahoney, truly cares about what people think of her work and that they are happy with the Fairy Tale Tarot.  I was very impressed when I emailed about a missing card from the deck.  Karen Mahoney personally emailed me with her apologies and promise of sending the missing card.  I received the missing card promptly (and safely packed in a padded envelope) . . . in addition to a box to hold my cards and a card signed by Karen and Alex Ukolov as well.  I was extremely pleased, and it certainly made me feel that much better about having purchased this deck.  It's a deck that I really love . . . fun, whimsical, and delightful -- but it can be serious when you need it to be.  It's a light-hearted approach to the Tarot.  Because after all . . . Tarot is still supposed to be fun!

The Fairy Tale Tarot is among my favorites . . . and when I'm in the mood for a whimsical Tarot touch, then the Fairy Tale Tarot is a perfect companion for me :-)
