QUESTION:  Does the long distance relationship I'm in have a future?

The first thing that comes to my immediate attention is the “war” you’ve got going on between your head and your heart, Cindy.  It’s as if you want to invite this love into your life, but at the same time, you feel almost compelled to push it back.  The Queen of Swords indicates that your mind may be telling you that this relationship cannot possibly work out because of the current physical distance.  However, with this Queen appearing, you may need to consider the feelings in your heart before looking at just the practical information your mind is giving you in terms of what can or cannot be possible.

A long-distance relationship can be a challenging one, and although it's true that few of them work out . . . there are those that endure and become something very special and meaningful.  This arrangement can indeed make you feel lonely at times -- perhaps in a way that just gives you "too much" time to think.  You might be considering a past relationship that didn't work out and was not long distance . . . with your thoughts making you wonder how this present relationship could work out if another relationship that was right there did not work.

This relationship itself can be a learning experience for both of you.  And so as you find yourself in a situation of trying to analyze everything, perhaps you are subconsciously allowing your head to rule your heart -- in a way that can block the good aspects of the relationship’s potentials.  Listen to the wisdom of your heart, especially regarding difficult choices and situations.  The wisdom of your mind -- although very important, too -- sometimes needs to be set aside for a bit in order that your heart wisdom has a chance to fully express itself.

When it comes to a long-distance relationship, it's natural for doubts to arise about the other person and their activities when you are not there.  The Reversed Queen of Wands suggests that a situation creating jealousy may come up between you and this man.  But it does seem that this challenge will be one presented by the Universe to test the strength of this love you and your partner have.  This will test either your insecurity levels and/or his . . . and it could lead to problems between the two of you for the future unless this is halted before it becomes a big situation that could tear apart the relationship.

When two people really love one another and want to commit -- even when the relationship must be a long-distance situation for a time -- that love will hold the relationship together . . . unless one of the partners does choose to stray from that love.  However, the cards do not indicate for that to actually happen in this case, but that one of you might think that it happened, and thus, creating needless friction and resentments with jealousy and great frustration.

If such an argument does arise out of suspicion about the other, be careful that you don't say things you don't really mean, for a word spoken can be apologized for . . . but it can never truly be taken back.  In the near future, both of you may have to seriously evaluate the validity of this love and relationship situation.  Such an evaluation will begin independently, but then be discussed together.  

The 8 of Pentacles shows that what you want is to enjoy an ongoing relationship that you and your partner can build stronger through time.  You want to find ways to deepen the bond and connection with this man.  Yet, of course, that is more difficult to do when there is the issue of long-distance as an obstacle.  You want to spend more time together rather than apart . . . and when love is present, it's only natural to want to be with the one you love as much as possible.

It seems that you genuinely want to work on this relationship, Cindy.  It's a relationship that may be changing your perspectives and overall experience about what a relationship is really all about.  Although it can seem that this situation might not be practical, workable, or realistic . . . you are obviously very special to one another, and this is a love that has opportunity to grow deeper and stronger in time.

With this 8 from the Tarot, it's also important to pay attention to the details -- even the little things that you might easily overlook.  It seems there is something to appreciate in this moment -- something that can be honed and fine-tuned to become even sweeter for the relationship overall.  Even the small gestures or tokens of appreciation are important to consider.

We've looked at a possible problematic experience with the Reversed Queen of Wands in regard to what may be coming up for this relationship.  And a bit part of that problem may arise from issues of jealousy.  But the Six of Wands indicates that there is also an energy of success and victory that can work for you in the future.  This card indicates the ability for you and this man to succeed in overcoming the obstacles of this relationship.  Here is an energy that allows for problems to be solved and right choices to be made.  There is the scent of wonderful victory and triumph contained here!

Relationships may be made in "heaven" (as the saying goes) . . . but they still have to be maintained here on earth, where commitment, dedication, and plain old hard work are the necessary ingredient to producing anything worthwhile.  A successful relationship represents two people who have worked through some tough problems . . . where giving up and calling it quits would have been far easier . . . and may even have been a tempting option.  Yet persistent effort is an important key to success in a relationship.  So the 6 of Wands doesn't tell us that this relationship "victory" will come easy; it's something you both have to work for.  But a good relationship takes work.  It takes participation from both sides of the equation.

The 6 of Wands indicates that soon you may reach an important milestone in this relationship.  Consider it a winning moment for both of you . . . and enjoy the feeling. Something that you or your partner does in the very near future may bring to the relationship the "missing piece" that needs to be present.  Certainly even if you and this man do have some problems ahead, there is also this wonderful energy that allows the relationship to be salvaged and made better.  The emphasis here is on a future victory that speaks well for the potentials of the relationship.  And part of that victory may be in finally meeting and connecting on an in-person basis.
 

Keep in mind that sometimes it does take a difficult trial for a relationship to actually prove to be worth hanging on to.  When two people are able to successfully beat the odds, it says a lot about the individuals in that relationship and what they want from within their hearts . . .  where it counts the most!  When two people overcome a challenge in a relationship, that can serve to strengthen the relationship and bring the two individuals closer together for having successfully worked out an issue.  It helps things move forward, and I do feel a lot of forward moving energy in the cards for you and this person.
